The timing depends on how you take your tincture. Sublingual administration, or holding drops under your tongue for at least a minute, allows fast absorption, bringing about effects in 15 to 45 minutes. Swallowing the tincture or mixing it with food requires the body to digest it first, delaying the onset to between 45 and 90 minutes.

The fastest way is to place the measured dose under your tongue, hold it there for at least one minute, and swallow. You can also add it to cold beverages, such as juice, or to soft foods, such as yogurt. Avoid high-heat cooking, since it breaks down the active ingredients. Some people swallow tinctures directly, which works, but it takes longer to take effect, like a regular edible.

Using the sublingual method usually provides relief for two to six hours. Swallowing a tincture or taking it with food results in a duration of four to eight hours.

Yes, patients with a valid Georgia Low THC Oil Registry card can legally buy and use tinctures. The state allows registered individuals to possess up to 20 fluid ounces of low-THC products, including tinctures, capsules, and topicals. All products must contain no more than 5% THC by weight under Georgia’s medical cannabis program.
