Cheryl

In 2011, my life changed when my son accidentally overdosed on my pain medications. Battling cancer for two decades, I’ve undergone over 100 surgeries and tried various medications. After losing my son, I sought alternatives and turned to Medicinal Cannabis, which proved effective in managing my pain. Motivated by this experience, I began advocating for Medicinal Cannabis at the State Capitol to help others. Despite the daily pain and loss, I remain committed to preventing similar tragedies for other families.

Larry

My name is Larry, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran (1988-1997) who served during Desert Storm from 1990-1991. I was part of active combat, even involved in missions to apprehend high-profile targets in Iraq. These experiences are beyond what many civilians can comprehend.

After leaving the Marines to be a father to my children, I, like many veterans, hoped civilian life would free me from the war’s grip. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Despite being told to “just get over it,” the mental and physical tolls persisted. Neuropathy and arthritis, stemming from my military service, brought unbearable pain into my daily life.

Living with PTSD and chronic pain, I realized conventional medicine only offered temporary relief through painkillers that left me feeling disconnected from myself.

It was then that I turned to medical cannabis at the suggestion of my doctor. It proved to be a transformative solution, allowing me to reduce my dependence on pharmaceuticals and reclaim a sense of normalcy. For the first time in two decades, I felt like myself again—engaged with life rather than numbed by it.

Medical cannabis not only alleviated my symptoms but also empowered me to understand and advocate for what veterans like me truly experience.

Triana

My name is Triana, and I am a veteran who served over 20 years in the US Army Active Duty and Reserves. More than 30 years ago, I signed that dotted line stating that I would support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I found camaraderie in my determination to be a part of something bigger than myself. After wearing the wrong boots for years, among other issues, I developed and was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome. RLS is a condition that causes a powerful urge to move the legs and sharp, striking pain. The urge to move is usually caused by an uncomfortable crawling feeling in the legs. It typically happens in the evening or at night when sitting or lying down, disrupting my sleep.

For years, I did everything my primary care doctor advised, including taking medicine, attending physical therapy, and using different creams. I finally found a cream that works but only helps with temporary relief. Now, with the help of medical cannabis, my quality of life has improved, and I am seeing relief from pain and better sleep. I particularly enjoy the S2 Soft Squares. I have been able to function the next day, and medical cannabis deserves the credit. I have been on several medications, and very few have helped. I am glad that medical cannabis is legal and accessible so that I and many soldiers can get the relief needed. I am a mother to 12 and grandmother to 4, a business owner, and a community advocate, and being in constant pain is not an option. Medical cannabis is helping me to be there for my family and my community.

Doug

I’m Doug, an Army Veteran of 29 years with multiple combat tours. Military service is physically tough and mentally demanding. After becoming 100% disabled, I looked at myself in the mirror; I saw at the base of the mirror… over ten little medicine bottles. I didn’t feel well and was concerned about the long-term effects of mixing medications. That led me to explore medical cannabis and obtain a medical cannabis card. Cannabis helps me every day by managing my orthopedic pain and my mood due to combat PTSD, and it helps me with sleep! See if medical cannabis is right for you.

Jennifer and Abby

At 15 months old, Abby was diagnosed with a congenital brain defect that affected her development. The following year, she began displaying signs of profound Autism and became severely self-injurious, biting her arms until she was bruised and bleeding. After months of countless physician and specialist appointments and over thirty different pharmaceuticals and supplements to try and get Abby to stop hurting herself and others, Jennifer discovered medical cannabis. Within four days of adding cannabis to her food twice a day, Abby’s severe behaviors were reduced by 90%! Jennifer took her off of pharmaceuticals, and Abby has been taking only cannabis for years. Cannabis has changed their lives, and they thank God every day for this amazing medicine.

Julianna

For three years, since 2021, I have battled cervical cancer twice and continue to battle daily with the long term and ongoing side effects from rigorous radiation and chemotherapy. After losing my father at a young age to an accidental overdose, I knew early into my fight I did not want to use any ‘hardcore’ pain medicine to combat the awful pain I was in so I began to turn to holistic and natural options for relief. I turned to medical cannabis to help me sleep, to get me up in the morning, to keep me eating, to keep me from getting sick, to help with ongoing pain and not to mention the PTSD. 27 years old with a stage 4A cancer diagnosis. My world was rocked and whatever normal I thought I knew was out the window.

Being a younger cancer patient, I began to see how important it is to advocate for yourself. During treatment, I became a (cervical) cancer patient advocate committed to make a change for women’s health and treatment options. Many of these procedures pertaining to gynecological health are done without the use of any painkillers for whatever reason. I can speak to the validity of that. You’re lucky if they offer you any tylenol. There is no reason any person should suffer in any capacity when we have an answer of relief – medical cannabis. Without the use of medical cannabis I do not think I could continue to stand, walk, eat, and really LIVE.

Jennifer

I have dealt with chronic pain daily for a few years. My condition doesn’t have a cure, so I can only manage my symptoms. One day, while at a UGA game, I met Tony Singletary from Botanical Sciences. He told me about the relief benefits of medical cannabis. I immediately contacted my doctor to get a medical cannabis card. The process was professional and straightforward. Now, whenever I have an unbearable episode of pain, I take my wonder drops (Botanical Sciences Tincture), and within an hour, I am pain-free. I no longer have to lie in bed, hoping the pain will disappear. I am so glad to have found medical cannabis; now I can enjoy my grandkids without pain.
